The House of Pierre Loti
Julien Viaud (1850-1923), author's name Pierre Loti, spent a great part of his life turning his native house of Rochefort into a theatrical place, where he staged memorable celebrations.
The decorations of the house are reminders of the past and of his travel as a navy officer: gothic hall and Renaissance room, turkish room...
The visitor travels through the strange and captivating universe of the writer, coming out fascinated although a century has passed since it's creation.

The Museum of Ancient Shops
The museum is located in a beautiful commercial building of the 19th Century, it houses various 19th century shops on three different floors, these shops have been recreated entirely with furnitures and objects from the 19th century collected by passionate and dedicated people in various flea markets.
A travel in time, that will seduce children and adults. It also houses a rich collection of ancient promotional objects.Not to be missed!

The National Museum of the Navy of Rochefort
The National Museum of the Navy of Rochefort is located in the magnificent «Hôtel particulier de Cheusses», from the XVIIth century. It houses collections of models from the city buildings, figureheads, carved panels, paintings representing the Ponant fleet, war machines from the former navy yard, souvenirs of sailors from Rochefort and from the penal colony of Rochefort.
The museum tells also the history of the navy yard and of the city of Rochefort created by Colbert in 1666. The permanent exhibition recounts the history of warships construction linked to the former navy yard of Rochefort.

The National Museum of Ancient Naval Medicine School
The National Museum of Ancient Naval Medicine School (created in 1722), is located in one the wings of the former naval hospital, a magnificent building designed by Toufaire.
The Museum houses objects, books, methods of classification, of display and staging of the knowledge of the XVIIIth Century. The school of medicine is the place for a sensitive experience, the encounter with an exceptionnally well preserved scientific fantasy world.
The Museum is a moving place, it tells the human adventure through which sailors and naval surgeons broke every taboos in order to unlock the secrets of the human body and capture the living world in its diversity.

The Hotel Hèbre of St Clément
The Hotel Hèbre of St Clément is a modern and innovative museum, it houses a vast collection of art, history artefacts and ethnographic objects.

the "Jardin des retours"
The "jardins des retours" is a modern creation which ties in the tradition of European theme gardens. Designes by the team of bernard Lassus, the landscape architect, the Gardens tell the story of the Rochefort arsenal and celebrate the homecoming of the great expeditions of the XVIIth and the XVIIIth centuries, returning to port with their holds laden with unknown plants.
